Matt Jones Photography
In 2007, Matt Jones was a wandering fishing guide with a camera at the ready. Stationed near Nome, on Alaska’s remote Unalakleet River drainage, sleepless days, spongy landscapes, and colorful inhabitants provided non-stop compositions to explore. Images accumulated in an entire season’s story. And weeding through the chapters, one shot would find its way onto the pages of a national publication. That image—a man and a salmon in an indelible moment—launched a career. Today, the 31-year-old continues his quest for definitive visuals from off-the-grid locales. His portfolio includes photojournalistic captures in award-winning outdoors titles, as well as commercial projects for revered brands. Whether it’s candids of people or products, or efforts to document the natural world via underwater perspectives and atmospheric drone imagery, Matt Jones Photography lends an authentic perspective to the travel, lifestyle, and sports markets he showcases. “My passions are rooted in all things outdoors, which is what drives my vision,” says the Dallas, Texas-based professional. “Applying those inspirations to works that resonate is what keeps me focused.” MJP commercial clients include YETI Coolers, Patagonia, Costa Sunglasses, Howler Brothers apparel, Mountain Dew, Tailwaters Travel Company, and more. Recent editorial work can be viewed in The Fly Fish Journal and The Drake magazines.
